I illustrated the DVD Case for the Criterion Collection movie Ran. The movie is a Japanese version of King Lear. The director Akira Kurosawa uses lots of Japanese symbols in the movie, and has the whole story happen under a traditional Japanese cultural background. To match his choice, I also used a lot of Japanese symbols, for example, the national flower, chrysanthemum, on the right bottom side of the DVD case cover. For the promotion booklet, I chose the rice paper because of the richness of the texture and the cultural relationship between rice paper and Japanese culture.
